Symptoms of Aging
Older adults experience a change in social, behavioral, and physical health. These interconnected processes are part of aging. In our clinic, we are helping to understand and navigate older adult life with better outcomes that help older adults, their caregivers, and their social circle.
Social clues of aging: Reduced number of friends and family & Increased loneliness
Physical clues: Frailty / chronic health conditions
Behavioral /mental health indications: Decreased memory and cognition, depression, anxiety, and Dementia.
How could we help you? What we offer
You or your caregiver or friends may notice one or more clues/symptoms associated with aging. A comprehensive assessment helps us to find neuropsychological issues related to aging. Importantly our evaluations rule out the appearance of these symptoms due to mental health issues other than aging. Our assessments unravel the following which is often indicative of Aging.
Memory changes/loss of working memory
Challenges in routine tasks such as driving /financial management
Disorientation-lack of understanding about the time/place/identity.
Missing and misplacing are common
Withdrawal from social activities
Route finding difficulties
Increased mood symptoms
How does a mental status examination help
Some of the older adults among us may be experiencing increased mental health-related issues than others, potentially leading to decreased quality of life. Our assessment and approaches can help to identify the mental health issues and the region or the processes of the brain that are affected. These possible causes include depression, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and many more. Just like any other health problem, It is important to identify the cause of a mental health issue to manage it appropriately and, to support functioning at an individual's highest potential, and increase their quality of life. Our evaluations would help to know if the symptoms you may be experiencing are normal aging associated or associated with a more significant problem such as dementia. These differentiations help us to navigate the course of our aging.
If you are concerned about yourself or someone you care about, an early, accurate diagnosis is the first step toward appropriate management of aging. Each one of us may age differently, which often depends on our social, mental, and physical capabilities. Therefore, our evaluations and further therapy will be person-centered.
Our Aging with Grace clinic's well-experienced clinical psychologist provides comprehensive aging-associated wellness evaluations using various cognitive /mood assessments. Referrals from family/legal guardians and physicians are welcome.
